Britney Spears OK’d to choose her own lawyer

As the battle to #FreeBritney drags on, things are beginning to look up for the 39 year old pop-singer in this longstanding battle over her conservatorship. Yesterday, Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Brenda Penny has given Spears the green light to appoint her own lawyer. She also wants her father, Jamie Spears, investigated & charged with ‘conservatorship abuse’. Hollywood Attorney Mathew Rosengart, who has represented past celebrities such as Sean Penn & Steven Spielberg, has been chosen & vowed to have his firm look into why the permanent conservatorship was granted to begin with.

This comes after about 3 weeks after, where a leaked audio recording, which can be found here, made its way to YouTube. In it, you can hear Britney plead with the judge to end her 13 year conservatorship as she recalls the abuse & questionable treatment she has endured during that time. From being forced to perform & tour, to being heavily monitored in rehab, especially while undressing to even being medicated & subject to forced contraception against her will, Spears expressed her anger & frustration of it all. Spears goes on to tell the judge how she has not owned her money in a long time and how it feels to make a living for others by paying dancers and for the trucks and buses on tour, only to be told she’s not good enough, despite being great at what she does (No lies there, sis)

Spears’ lawyer has called on her father to voluntarily step down as it’s in best interest of his client. Samuel D. Ingham, Spears’ court-appointed lawyer since the conservatorship began in 2008, filed a petition to resign on July 6 after criticism from Spears for not acting in her best interest & working to end the conservatorship sooner. In total Ingham has made nearly $3,000,000 from Spears over the 13 year period as her lawyer. She was also financially responsible to pay the legal fees for her conservator’s lawyers as well.

We here at The Shade Parade will continue to wish for the best in the #FreeBritney movement as it’s long overdue; she deserves to live her life as she sees fit.
